The founders of the Bainbridge Island Turkey Trot truly cherish and utilize the many outdoor opportunities this beautiful island offers. They’ve logged thousands of miles running, biking and stroller-pushing along the streets, trails and pathways of Bainbridge Island and neighboring Kitsap County. And with 20 years of residency between them, they’ve become true champions of their community and feel worthy of the designation “local”.
While zipping across the finish line of the December 2009 Solstice Run (adrenaline pumping), Jenny declared to Ann, “Bainbridge needs a Turkey Trot! Want to help?”. And thus, the Turkey Trot was born. Next to come was the development of the tax-exempt non-profit “Run for Bainbridge” (Federal Tax ID No: 27-2377038) and the desire to make a substantial contribution to a local charity. They never imagined the rapid rise in the event's popularity and are proud to announce that the first four years of the event raised nearly $65,000 for their event beneficiary, Helpline House.
With every subsequent year, they are pleased to help the community be active and to make a meaningful donation to families in need.
Their mission is to encourage fitness and well-being by offering community running events that benefit local charities. Jenny and Ann look forward to the continued success of the Bainbridge Island Turkey Trot. (And stay tuned…perhaps a summer trail run or two…)
